Regulatory Enforcement and Adjudication

A show cause notice is answered once, and everything afterwards is argued on that answer.

What we do

We handle the full arc of Indian regulatory enforcement. Response to show cause notices, which we treat as the principal pleading in the matter rather than as correspondence. Representation at personal hearings before adjudicating authorities. Inspection and search response, including what is produced, what is privileged and what is not. Departmental and statutory appeals. Compounding and settlement where the exposure is quantifiable and the relationship with the regulator is worth preserving. Judicial challenge where the order is without jurisdiction, unreasoned or passed in breach of natural justice. We act across the regulators that actually generate enforcement in India, being the food, drug, environmental, labour, legal metrology, customs, company law and sectoral authorities, and we advise on the pattern of enforcement in each rather than on the statute alone, because the statute rarely predicts the inspectorate.
