The India to Africa corridor

India and Africa trade more with each other every year and are advised on it by fewer specialist firms than almost any comparable corridor.

What we do

We act for African corporates and investors with Indian interests, and for Indian businesses operating across East, West and Southern Africa. Indian holding and investment structures for African operations, including overseas direct investment approvals, reporting and the round-tripping restrictions that catch groups with an African intermediate entity. Supply, distribution and manufacturing arrangements in pharmaceuticals, agricultural inputs, food, engineering and construction materials, which are the substance of the corridor. Project and infrastructure participation with an Indian sponsor or contractor. Trade finance and credit arrangements with an Indian leg. Disputes, including arbitration seated in the region or in a neutral seat, and enforcement in India of awards obtained abroad. Indian diaspora business structures, succession and Indian property interests, which are a large and consistently under-served part of the corridor.

How the desk works

Our approach in Africa is desk led and relationship led. The jurisdictional spread does not reward a single office and the work does not require one.
