What we do
We act as India counsel to law firms and in-house teams across the United States and Canada, and increasingly for Latin American groups with Indian sourcing and technology operations. India-side execution on transactions led from the Americas, including diligence, Indian law documentation and closing mechanics, delivered on a fixed fee where scope allows. Establishment and governance of Indian subsidiaries, which for United States technology and services groups is the most common first instruction. Employment, secondment and contractor classification in India. Data protection and the mapping of Indian obligations onto an existing United States privacy programme. Intellectual property protection and enforcement in India for American brand owners. Indian regulatory investigations affecting a United States parent, and the disclosure and reporting consequences. Enforcement of American judgments and awards in India, where the non-reciprocating position requires a different route and clients are rarely told so early enough.
How the desk works
The overnight turnaround is real and it is the reason most of this work comes to India rather than staying in a global firm’s New York office. Work handed over at the end of an Eastern time day is returned before the next begins.
