Law & Legal

Where we work

Three things are routinely blurred on law firm websites and we keep them apart, because a client who finds out later that a pin on a map was a marketing decision does not come back.

Our desks

Teams within the firm dedicated to a region, working from India and led by a named partner. A desk is not an office and we do not present it as one. It is a group of lawyers who handle that corridor every week, hold the relationships in it, and work to its clock. Six desks are in operation.

Six desks, one licence

A desk is a team in India dedicated to a corridor, not a foreign office. All six may run at launch.

Europe Desk

Europe Desk European companies typically arrive in India with a structure designed in Frankfurt, Paris or Amsterdam and a set of assumptions that do not survive contact with Indian sectoral conditions.

United Kingdom and Ireland Desk

More India-facing legal work originates in London than in any other city outside India, and a great deal of it sits with firms that have no India capability.

ASEAN and Singapore Desk

A very large share of capital entering India is structured through Singapore, and a very large share of India-related arbitration is seated there.

Middle East Desk

The Gulf to India corridor carries more capital, more construction and more family-owned business than almost any other.

Americas Desk

United States counsel usually need three things on an Indian question: a clear answer, a realistic timetable and somebody reachable at nine in the evening Eastern time.

Africa Desk

India and Africa trade more with each other every year and are advised on it by fewer specialist firms than almost any comparable corridor.

Two directions of travel

Inbound

Foreign companies, funds and law firms with an Indian question, an Indian target, an Indian subsidiary or an Indian proceeding. We are the India arm of the transaction and, frequently, of the instructing firm.

Outbound

Indian businesses acquiring, distributing, licensing, litigating or establishing abroad, where the Indian side of the structure has to be right before the foreign side is worth building.
